NOEL SHORT, Brazil, IN

Noel E. Short, 82, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Heart Center, in Carmel, Indiana, with his children at his side.

Noel was born on December 25, 1940, in Salem, Indiana, the son of Merrell and Gladys (Spaulding) Short. Noel was the quarterback of Salem High School’s first football team. He was also the captain of the baseball and basketball teams. After graduating from Salem High School, Noel enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard.

Noel began his career as a Lab Tech, at Linde, a division of Union Carbide. In 1966, Noel, along with four others, started Cryogenic Associates. While with Cryogenic Associates, he helped develop a portable home breathing device known as the Oxygen Liberator / Stroller. In 1992 Noel founded Technifab Products, Inc. in Brazil, Indiana. Noel served in nearly every capacity in the business and was proud to have had each of his 3 children join him in growing the business.

Noel has been involved in various community and civic organizations. As a member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Clay County, in the early 1990’s, he was instrumental in the building of the new facility. He has also been a member of the Porche Club, Haggerty Car Club, Optimist Club, and Hoosier Boy’s State. Noel, and his late wife Donna, were long-term supporters of the Clay County Humane Society. At various stages of his life, Noel rode horses, rode motorcycles, was a private pilot, an avid golfer, and sports car enthusiast.

Noel was preceded in death by his wife Donna (Nale) Short, parents Merrell and Gladys Short, and a sister Loretta Vadas.

Noel is survived by his 3 children and their spouses: Steve and Laura Short, Doug and Teri Short, and Laurie and Robert Drake; grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher and Nicole Short, Jason and Abbey Short, Jarrod and Taylor Short,

Jacob and Jackie Short, Jack Short, Joe Short (Mahaylee Bex), Zachary Drake (Stephanie Garcia), and Matthew Drake (Shailyn Bennett); great-grandchildren: Jackson, Sophie, Emmett, Charlotte, and Wyn; a brother Byron Short; and a niece Linda Vadas Sulecki.

Visitation for Noel will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Monday, November 27, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Private services will be held on Tuesday with burial to follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
