Submitted - MADISON SHORTER

Grandparents can be one of the most influential people in our lives, and this is true for Northview senior Madison Shorter.

When asked of her role model, Madison names her great-grandmother, Madonna Campbell.

“Growing up in the 1930s with five siblings, her family – like most others – struggled financially. Later, she got married to my great-grandfather, Marvin Campbell, and they were able to create an amazing life. Even after my great-grandfather passed, she has remained a strong and compassionate woman that all my family and friends can lean onto when they need support or even just a hot meal.”

At Northview, Shorter is a member of history club and National Honors Society. She also competes on the Academic Superbowl math and history teams and the WIC Quiz Bowl. Her team’s performance in the Academic Superbowl is one of her proudest accomplishments.

“I am proud of my team and I for getting first place last year in the Academic Superbowl for our conference.”

Outside of school, Shorter is involved in 4-H, and she tutors and volunteers in her spare time. She also works at Maurizio’s in Brazil as part of the ICE program at Northview.

After high school, Madison plans to attend Purdue University or Indiana State University and major in criminology.

“I have always been interested in law enforcement – especially since I grew up watching shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds, and Law and Order.”

The teachers at Northview have played an important part in Shorter’s high school career, and she explains that they have been her favorite part of high school.

“I’ve been fortunate to have teachers that care about their students and are willing to take the extra time to help them.”

When asked of her bucket list, Madison notes that it isn’t very complicated.

“I’m a really simple person; I would really love to own a tortoise.”
