According to the family's insurance investigator, the fire on January 4, 2024, was caused by “Faulty Wiring.”

Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday, seven fire departments and the Clay County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire in the 8600 block of US 42, just east of Poland.
Center Point Volunteer Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Zeph Smith said he spoke to the homeowner, who stated their belief the fire might have started from a heat lamp used for baby chicks falling over.
Firefighters determined the fire started in the area of a heat lamp.
"We believe the fire started accidentally due to a knocked-over heat lamp," said Smith, who confirmed the occupants were out of the house when the fire departments arrived. "No one was injured, and the American Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner."
