JOAN MARIE HAMMER, Brazil, IN

Joan Marie Hammer, 88, of Brazil, Indiana passed away at home, on the evening of January 6, 2023.

Joan was born on June 8, 1935, in South Bend, Indiana the daughter of James and Alice M. (Ebel) Groves. She graduated from South Bend Central High School with the class of 1953. In 1978 Joan was awarded the Manpower Secretary of the Year. She had worked at Pitman Moore for many years. She was a member of the Terre Haute Welcome Club where she had previously served as president.

Joan enjoyed sewing, quilting, and machine embroidery.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years William “Bill” Hammer, parents James and Alice Groves, her brother James Groves, and dear friend Sandi Goebel.

Joan is survived by her children: Kevin Hammer and wife Lori of Davison, Michigan and Karen Burk and husband Jim; grandchildren: Courtney Lash (Jason), Joseph Burk (Chelsey), Emily Hammer (Blake Hiben), Katelyn Burk (Andrew Fishero), Tori Gard (Wyatt), and Mary Burk (Eli Britton); great-grandchildren: Ryan, Abbie, Kyliey, Owen, Joanna, Elliott, and Lucas; as well as several extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, In 47834, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will follow at the funeral home, on Saturday, at 1:00 PM. Burial will be held at Restlawn Cemetery, in Brazil.
