With smoke visible for miles, the Brazil Fire Department is battling a structure fire near the intersection of Don Miller Court and Harry Sherer Drive in Brazil.

First responders stopped traffic in the subdivision.

Officials at the scene believe the house was unoccupied. The State Fire Marshal has been contacted to investigate the cause of the fire.

Brazil City Police, STAR Ambulance, and members of the Clay Community School Corporation were also on scene.

Superintendent Dr. Tim Rayle, School Board Trustee Tom Reberger, and a few other staff members arrived a few minutes after the reported fire started.

The residence was under construction by students in the Building and Trades program.

Rayle was grateful no students were present when the fire started, and there were no injuries.
