D. Joseph “Joe” Redenbarger, 91, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away while staying at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care at Union Hospital, surrounded by his family, on January 11, 2024.

Joe was born on August 10, 1932, in Brazil, Indiana, the son of Russell and Reba (Stwalley) Redenbarger. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1950. He also graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Accounting. Joe worked for Indiana University IU Med Center, in Indianapolis, as the Assistant Comptroller. Following his career at IU, he worked as the accountant for The Brazil Times where he retired as Publisher. There he helped to modernize the printing process.

Joe was involved in the Clay County Economic Development Organization where he had served as president. There he was instrumental in bringing industry to the community. Joe was passionate about Indiana University Athletics and became involved in the IU Varsity Club and Alumni Association. His public and civic works were recognized by Governor Evan Bayh awarding Joe the Sagamore of the Wabash.

Joe was also a member of the First Christian Church. Joe enjoyed playing golf, watching IU Basketball, spending Winters in Florida, fishing, and especially spending times with his grandchildren – reading and going for rides on the golf cart.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Russell Redenbarger and Reba Redenbarger Campbell; a grandson Ryan Wilt; siblings: Geraldine Redenbarger, John Zurcher, William Redenbarger, Ted Redenbarger, and Richard Redenbarger.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years Janice (Cobley) Redenbarger whom he married on September 6, 1963; daughters: Susan Stefanoni (Dan), Sally Green (Ed), and Jennifer Copeland (Bernie); grandchildren: Courtney Wilt, Olivia Stefanoni, Ava Stefanoni, Samuel Green (Mykenzie), Anna Green, Mallory Reckerd, Caleb Reckerd, and Landon Reckerd; a great-grandson Josiah Green; a God-brother Don Mercer; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 4-8 PM. Services will be at the funeral home, on Monday, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ed Green officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
