SENIOR SPOTLIGHT - NHS MADDIE SMITH

Tuesday, January 30, 2024

Maddie Smith is a senior at Northview High School. She is involved in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Interact Club, National Honors Society, and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She also volunteers with her church and helps with the children's ministry.

“I am a part of the teaching rotation in Sunday school for elementary-aged children. Later in the summer I lead one of the stations at our Vacation Bible School.”

Maddie also has a part-time job at Max and Honey's You-Pick Flower and Pumpkin Farm. She works in their general store and aids in various activites as well.

Smith is not in the Northview internship or ICE program, but she is taking the CNA (certified nurse assitant) course.

“During this course, I get to visit local nursing homes and take care of residents.”

At the end of the course, Maddie will take a test in order to obtain her CNA license. She appreciates the practical knowledge she gains from the course, as well as the emotional rewards that come with it.

“I enjoy getting to spend time with the residents and being able to get hands-on experience in the healthcare field.”

In the future, Smith plans to attend Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and study nursing. In addition to giving her practical experience in the medical field, the CNA course will prepare her for majoring in nursing.

“I want to pursue a career in nursing because I enjoy being able to care for others.”

Maddie explains that her favorite part of high school has been the friendships she has made throughout her four years.

When asked of her role models, Smith names her mother and father.

“My biggest role models in my life are my parents. They are both hardworking and compassionate.”
