SCAM ALERT - New Phone scam in area

SCAM ALERT!

Phone scams are happening all the time, including in Clay County.

One recent scammer tried to sound more official by naming someone from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

Patrol Sergeant Rob Gambill retired from the sheriff’s department in November 2019, becoming the Clay County Emergency Director later that year.

However, a scammer uses Gambill’s name and tells victims a legal matter needs to be settled.

The calls are coming from 812-947-9570.

“If you call the number back, you reach a recording of a female voice asking you to leave your name and phone number,” said Gambill in a Facebook post to alert citizens. “This is a scam! Please do not give out any personal information.”
