HAYLEY COOPER PHOTO - The mulch pile at Forest Park has officially been removed, with the Craig Park pile to be removed soon.

The Park Board began its monthly meeting with the approval of the last month's minutes. The treasurer's report will be available next month.

The Park Superintendent's report by Marv Moon included

•Changing the oil in park vehicles

•Trimming bushes on Pinckley Street

•A winter deep-clean of the shop on Bonnie Geyne Miller Dr.

•Removing limbs due to wind damage at Forest and Craig Park

•Removing old shrubs from Craig Park

•Two large stumps at the Forest Park playground area were removed, and one behind the garage on King Street

•Two stumps were removed at Craig Park

•Cleaned the North end overflow drain at Forest Park

The sewer line found at the splash pad work site stopped excavating for two days but won't cause further problems.

"I called in the sewer department and found out that the line was decommissioned, so it wasn't anything that was a major issue," explained Marv Moon, Superintendent of Brazil City Parks.

A project that has taken months is finally complete. The mulch pile from the debris left from a storm last summer has finally been hauled off and moved from Forest Park.

"We had some backup on that from the street department. We had eight trucks running for two days straight," said Moon.

Moon said he knew the project would be a significant undertaking, but it cost the city nothing to eliminate, as a citizen will be taking both mulch piles.

The board passed the purchase of a chlorinator pump for the Forest Park swimming pool. Originally priced at around $10,000, Moon obtained a discount of more than half at $4,374.69.

For audience comments, Lee Ann Hammond, Health And Wellness Coordinator, and Michaela Sinclair, Child Care Director at The YMCA, requested renting the Cow Palace at Forest Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Healthy Kids Day national event.

"It's an opportunity for kids to get out in the community and have some fun, and we provide some activities for them to do," explained Hammond.

The Park Board approved the rental of the Cow Palace for the free morning event.

Under new business on the agenda was the recommendation to the Board of Public Works and Safety to deem the old zoo building at Craig Park as surplus so the city can auction off the building. The board unanimously motioned to pass the recommendation and let out a collective sigh, expressing they have been working on this for several years.

For old business, there was an update on the splash pad water lines. At last month's meeting, Moon described the splash pad plumber was concerned about winterizing due to the pipes not being deep enough in the ground. Michael Waldbieser, the project engineer, and The Peterson Company agree that there shouldn't be any issues.

Board comments included Janet McClellan, Planning and Zoning Administrator, stating the YMCA will be taking over the concession stand at the park pool from Christmas in the Park.

Lastly, Larry Wyndham announced that he would be stepping down from the Park Board, and John Moore would fill his position.
