On Saturday, a group of ladies enjoyed excellent hunting weather at the Wabash Valley Quail Forever Club’s Ladies Upland Hunt at the Prairie Grove Hunting Preserve.

After a club meeting, ladies and guests enjoyed homemade lunch and conversation. Many ladies have attended before and traveled over three hours for the annual hunt.

Wendy Frevert of the Wabash Valley Quail Forever Club said she has fond childhood memories of hunting and attending club meetings with her father. She hopes the younger generation will become more involved.

Jim Jacob of the Prairie Grove Hunting Preserve, located at 300 N. and 425 W., farms a portion of the land and practices conservation while creating more robust wildlife habitats. He says the event has been going strong for about 14 years and continues to grow, with many participants returning with friends each year.

The Ladies Upland Hunt is one of many Prairie Grove Hunting Preserve events.

“We try to do a youth hunt every year, and then we have a banquet. We do a youth dove hunt sometimes; it depends on how the season is. We try to do a lot for kids, and the club does a lot of habitat work,” said Jacob. “All the money our Wabash Valley Quail Forever Club raises stays local. All the money is used in this area.”

Ladies brought their trained bird dogs to guide the hunt of quail, pheasant, and chukars. Both the ladies and dogs couldn’t contain their excitement for the hunt.

Ladies, along with their dogs, participating in Saturday’s hunt were (in no particular order) Brandy Miller, Rhona Halcomb, Emily Jacob, Shelly Bargo, Wendy Frevert, Josie Pierce, Tricia Drew, Caren Mansfield, and Bonnie Wyatt.
