John L. Hughbanks, 72, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2024. John was born to the late William and Thelma Hughbanks on July 31, 1951.

John graduated from Van Buren High School in 1969. On January 9, 1971 he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Long. He earned a certificate in Heating and Cooling. John worked at Jameson’s Heating and Cooling. John also owned and operated J&K Mowing Service with his son Kevin. John worked as a maintenance supervisor for Metal Industries and Clay County Sheriffs Department. He enjoyed camping with family and going to state parks. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles.

John is preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma, a sister, Marilyn Smith and her husband Ray.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Hughbanks, three children, Paula Hughbanks (Nick), Melissa Hughbanks (Zanny), and Kevin Hughbanks, grandchildren, Lindsey Hendrix (John), Kaitlyn Ruff (Jerimia), Jaylen Hughbanks, Kelsey Lawrence (Carson), Mackenzy, Lily, Luke and Tye Hughbanks, great grandchildren, Lila and Gavin Hendrix and Mackenna and Brody Davis, one sister, Linda Knauer, and one brother, Alan Hughbanks (Lynn), as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 8th from 11 – 3 at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service will begin at 3 P.M. Cremation will follow.
