Tuesday, September 3, 2024
Former Northview cross country runners Gnister Grant, Jcim Grant, Ellia Hayes and Halle Miller (left to right) got their college seasons underway over the weekend at the Sam Bell Invitational.

The number of sectional and regional championships, as well as state championship appearances, over the last decade speaks to how dominant Northview’s cross country programs have been.

But on Friday night at the Sam Bell Invitational hosted by Indiana University, there was another sign of the level in which the Knights have seen their teams rise as four Division I runners – Gnister Grant (Indiana State University), Jcim Grant (Indiana State University), Ellia Hayes (Indiana University) and Halle Miller (Indiana State University) – competed against each other on one of the sport’s biggest stages to open the 2024 season.

In the women’s race, Gnister Grant finished 17th with a time of 14:49. She was followed by her longtime friends and teammates Ellia Hayes who finished 21st with a time of 14:54, marking the first career races for the pair of freshmen, and Halle Miller, who finished 25th with a time of 15:08 to get her sophomore campaign underway.

In the men’s race, Jcim Grant finished 27th with a time of 19:41 in his first career collegiate meet.
