Good Housekeeping
Tonight I am feeling my age.
It was one of those down and up and up and down days. Rainy, dark and full of gloom for people with nothing else to do. This cleaning lady was here wearing a very familiar ruffled apron and a gapped tooth smile as she did her daily duties.
Ms. Tootie Mae and Mr. Paul were good help and entertainment, only stopping to enjoy good eats and treats.
Paul preferred white cake covered with creamy icing. Toot was satisfied with milk bone.
I thought the nap breaks a little frequent, but, what’s a mom to say! Sunday, we visited Godby Home Furnishings, in Noblesville, to shop for a new couch.
Our Lori is the manager there. The showrooms are loaded with fine furniture and we found the last couch we will ever have to buy again. So, in the morning the couch will be in this living room.
The old couch and a matching love seat, both in good condition, will be donated to someone looking for such items. Our living room will have a new look and I’ll be ready to decorate for the upcoming fall season.
Someone said your children and grandchildren don’t care how your house looks, they just care about us.
I am not quite ready to bury the dust rag or the cleaning tools anytime soon.
If my grandmothers were living they would be pleased with me in that regard. I read this untitled poem.
She saw dusting differently… Still, I will stay on my path as long as possible.
Dust if you must, but would it be better To paint a picture or write a letter, Ponder the differences between want and need?
Dust if you must, and mountains to climb; Music to hear, and books to read; Dust if you must, but the worlds out there With the sun in your eyes and the wind in your hair A flutter of snow, a shower of rain, This day will not come around again.
Dust if you must, and (go you must) You, yourself, will make more dust. By Rose Mulligan.
Now I must end the long day.
