Let’s Talk Turkey
Thanksgiving
There dawned a frosty morning
In the autumn of the year When the crops had all been gathered And the air was crisp and clear. The Pilgrims all rose early
To give a helping hand
And lay a festive table
With the bounty of the land. Soon the farmers from the harvest And the hunter from the wood Brought the pumpkins and the turkeys And the ripened fruits they could. Then the Pilgrims paused a moment, To bow their heads in prayer, And thanked God for HIS blessings On that first Thanksgiving Day.

Well, here we are preparing for holidays. When I think of Thanksgiving I talk turkey. All of the cooks in my family, both men and women do a fine job roasting poultry, including my favorite, the turkey slow roasted to perfection. This year we are invited to the home of Starla and Bruce May, in Carmel. I have received sev- eral request for various pies this year.
This year again I have designed my own greet- ing cards honoring the turkey and the Pilgrims, with humor and message added to spice them up. They are in the snail mail , still a blessing to this old-timer.
When I think of the holidays it brings back memories of many turkeys we raised and processed at my childhood home. Of the various breeds, both domestic and wild that we raised, I preferred the broad breasted white turkey. Bread dressing like my mom use to make is always on my menu.
This is 0ur 65th wedding anniversary today and I will be headed out for an appointment with my health care provider. My blood pressure is very high. The medicine has been changed and tweaked. I am still experiencing too many headaches and other concerns. Today I hope she will set my mind at ease.
I visited my dermatologist, Lawrence Mark for my check-up. He found reason to take a biopsy of a lesion on my nose. I am waiting to hear from the surgeon that will take care of the skin cancer. I would like to get rid of the Rudolph look before Christmas...
I would rather talk turkey than complain and I would rather sing and dance than cry.
So, maybe when I return from the doctor visit; I’ll put a vinyl on the turntable and slow dance with my sailor boy, for old times sake. As I said, it is our anniversary!
