Senior Spotlights
For the first time since the middle of April, we don’t have any Senior Spotlights published in The Brazil Times.
It ends a long run of honoring those senior student-athletes from Clay City and Northview that missed out on their final spring sports seasons due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
And although I’m fully aware this was just a small tribute, I’m thankful for all of the support it gained through emails, phone calls and messages I got from various people around Clay County.
Having been a former spring athlete myself, I was bummed when the rulings – albeit completely understandable – were announced that the remainder of the sports year would be canceled.
I wanted to do anything in my power to get the kid’s, who would have certainly had numerous stories written and published about them and several pictures taken of them in action on the field, court and course, into the paper in any way possible.
Getting that accomplished would not have been possible without the hard work and meaningful help of the following Clay County coaches: Mark Raetz (Northview track and field), Emily Goff (Northview girls tennis), Kathy Vossmer (Northview softball), Larry Shaw (Clay City baseball), Cole Schroer (Clay City track and field), Craig Trout (Northview baseball) and Clarence Johnson (Clay City boys golf), as well as numerous parents who sent in pictures to go along with the student-athlete’s answers.
So, a big thank you goes out to all of you in the Clay County area that made paying homage to these more-than-deserving kids a possibility. We’ll be keeping up with those that will be continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level and wish all of the 2020 graduates the best of luck.
