Pop cans, tabs very important

Sunday, March 22, 2009

To the Editor:

I was taking a nap as old folks will do on a windy day, and this knock on the door awoke me as an urgent alarm to answer.

Lo, an angel with a load of pop cans appeared at my door as Mrs. Morgan Mullenix from down Staunton way was wanting to know if Marion lived here and with an affirmative, she explained she had a load of pop cans and tabs for the children.

I then, still some sleepy, told her to wait a moment while I put my shoes on and what with all the leaf bags she had loaded, it's a wonder she didn't lose half of them while hunting my residence.

Folks, our community missionary church, 21 W. Pinckley St., Brazil, and our entire 50-some members want you to know we appreciate your help and not ask for money but we collect aluminum pop cans to "Feed the Children with our rice for Haiti." And it helps if you also can pull the tabs as we send them to "Riley Hospital for Children."

Both are ongoing projects and we also collect bar codes from soup cans, which we send out west to Southwest Indiana projects through our OMS headquarters.

Thanks to Mrs. Mullenix and her little daughter, whom couldn't lift one of the big bags and anyone else whom would like to donate their pop cans for a worthy cause.

We thank you and also to the many friends like the Union United Methodist Ladies (and husbands too) from airport road.

Phone us for pick up at 448-2873, Bedwell Tire at 446-2252 or 442-6952 and leave your message for pick up.

Marion "Sarge" Eveland,

Knightsville
