More musings on festival

To the Editor:

I have been reading all the letters in The Brazil Times regarding the now canceled Popcorn Festival.

I moved here eight years ago from Valparaiso, Ind., which will celebrate its 35th Popcorn Festival this coming September.

This event has a tremendous parade, food booths, a five-mile race, vendors, etc.

It draws thousands of people and is really a family oriented festival.

I give the local past Popcorn Festival Committee a lot of praise for their hard work and many hours of volunteer time and effort in putting on a festival of that magnitude.

I don't think that they deserved all the harassment and criticism that they received for only requesting a beer tent permit for the festival.

I don't support people getting drunk.

However, I don't condemn every living person who ever has a cold drink once in a while.

Every perfect person raise your hand: There wouldn't be many hands go up!

If you're not going to ever take your child or grandchild to any event that serves alcohol, then they will never to a major league ball park, football stadium, pro basketball coliseum, ice hockey stadium, etc.

That is just the way it is.

Just teach your child the right path to take.

If something is there, you do not have to purchase it.

In closing, oh yes, there is a beer garden at the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival, so if you were planning on going, be forewarned: You can always pop your corn in the microwave.

Yes, I am a Christian and definitely not a hypocrite.

Jack Glancy,
