Fireworks company addresses concerns

To the editor:

I am writing this letter to address some concerns in the article, "Commissioners Select New Security Committee Members, Hear Noise Concerns," posted in the Brazil Times on June 5, 2014.

Wayne's World Fireworks, LLC is a local business that has been established for 10 years in Bowling Green, Indiana. We are a well-known and respected company within the fireworks industry and have many customers from all over the United States. We operate and abide by all federal, state, and local laws and regulations and always have the proper permits/documentation to proceed with our business activities. We have not had any complaints until recently when we had new neighbors move in down the road. When this started to occur, we talked to several of our surrounding neighbors and confirmed that they still continue to totally support us in our business endeavor. They stated that the business was established long before the neighbor moved in and was fully aware of the business when he made the choice to move in.

Wayne's World Fireworks, LLC has always supported all the local surrounding towns and communities and have provided assistance to many of the communities with their fund raisers and community celebrations such as Fish Fry's, Fourth of July events, and so on. Aside from providing support for the community events, we also help to boost the economy of the surrounding towns by bringing in customers who shop at the local businesses (restaurants, gas stations, road services, convenient stores, etc.); we also help to provide employment for many of the members of the community and especially the young adults looking for summer jobs; and we also act as an agent for the State of Indiana collecting the five percent Public Safety Training Tax for fireworks sold which in turn goes directly back to the community - so if we have a great year, there will be greater amounts of funding which will go back to the community and the fire departments.

So as you can see, we were very shocked to be a part of the community for many years and to recently start receiving complaints. We did in fact try to work out the problem by offering to remodel one of the towns building in order to make amends, but the neighbor wouldn't agree to it. In the end, the town suffered because it lost out on a great opportunity.
