To the editor:

The Brazil Lions Club would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the generous $6,365 grant from the Clay County Community Foundation, a chapter of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. Their grant enabled us to purchase new preschool vision screening equipment which is capable of screening children approximately 18 months to six years old as well as nonverbal or developmentally disabled individuals. This non-invasive process only takes a few seconds to complete and it is able to screen for amblyopia, astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia and anisometropia. The Brazil Lions Club and other Wabash Valley Lions Clubs provide free preschool vision screenings in an effort to detect vision problems that can cause permanent vision loss. The screening does not replace a professional eye exam. The Lions Clubs will also assist with eye exams and eyeglasses as needed in cooperation with the area optometrists. Please contact President Ellen Reeves at 812-236-9444 if you have a need for glasses or an exam. Contact Lora Fenwick at 812-878-2170 if your daycare, child care center or preschool is interested in this free Lions Club vision screening.

Again, we would like to thank the Clay County Community Foundation for their generous assistance and we request everyone to please thank their members as children this young rarely realize they are not seeing clearly. So far, the new equipment has been utilized in Clay and Vigo counties.
