Wednesday, April 8, 2020

State and local health officials concurred Wednesday, releasing information that Clay County has 11 COVID-19 cases.

Clay County Health Nurse Kim Hyatt said the state has “caught up with the local information.”

Of the 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases, Hyatt said nine are self quarantined at home, with two patients hospitalized. No additional information is available due to the federal law - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The arrival of COVID 19 in Clay County was announced with the first confirmed case on March 28, with cases increasing to five on April 4, eight on April 6, nine of April 7., and two more Tuesday and Wednesday.

Officials say the number is going to continue to rise as more test results come back throughout April as more testing is made available, and the results can be processed within 24 hours.

Once a diagnosis - either negative or positive - is confirmed, the health department in the patient’s residing county is notified of the result, as well as their health care provider.

As of Wednesday evening, the total of positive cases of COVID-19 in Indiana was 5,943, with 30,869 residents tested, and 203 deaths reported to the Indiana State Department of Health. (The numbers are considered to be provisional, reflecting only the information reported to the ISDH.)
