First Baptist Church

On Tuesday evening, April 14, the 21st day of Indiana’s stay-at-home order, eleven church members met virtually via Zoom. It was so good to see and speak to each other face to face, even if it was on a computer screen. The pastor guided the discussion through how we had each been spending our time, church issues and needs, prayer requests, and closed in prayer. He plans to hold more virtual meetings, so if he has your email address be expecting an invitation. You will need to download Zoom prior to the meeting. Interested in participating but not sure Pastor Mark has your email address, just email or text him.

This coming Sunday April 19, worship service will be available for viewing on the church website, http://www.brazilbaptistchurch.net under the Worship tab, as well as on the church Facebook page. The pastor’s message entitled “What Just Happened Here?” will be based on Mark 16:1-8. Past sermons are available under the Media tab.

Just a reminder that throughout the year our Youth are collecting items for Operation Christmas Child to fill shoeboxes for children around the world who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present. You may want to continue to buy those items as you shop (do not make a special trip for this) and store them until we can gather together again. For the month of April, it is suggested we gather crafts for children ages 2-14 such as play dough, water colors, stickers, chalk, and puzzles.

In the absence of our face-to-face fellowship, please take time to call, text, email or drop a note to others in our church family. The deacons will continue weekly contacts with every family in the church. Our interim pastor, the Rev. Dr. Mark W. Hetrick, is as close as a phone call or text to talk or pray with you. And our “Prayer Chain” is still up and running.

First Baptist Church is located at 413 South Walnut Street. The church phone number is (812) 448-8112. Our interim pastor is the Rev. Dr. Mark W. Hetrick. His cell is (317) 697-2485 and email is revdocmark@sbcglobal.net. Follow us on Facebook or the church website at www.brazilbaptistchurch.net.

Online Service time

10:00 a.m.

Good day! Can I just say, thank you! Thank you for taking a moment to read this section each week. While many of those that read this have a church home and are only reading to see what is going on at area churches, I want you to know that is appreciated! It is great to see what is happening in the Body of Christ in your community. We must support and encourage one another, especially in times like these. We must also remember that we have no idea who might pick up a paper or view this online. We have no idea how God might choose to use a simple message like this to reach out to someone who is in need, someone who is hurting, someone who is searching. It is incredible to consider! I am so thankful for the opportunity to write this each week and see how God might use it. If you get a chance send a word of encouragement and thanks to the Brazil Times for allowing us space to do this each week. It is a blessing!

We hope that your Easter was filled with the hope, wonder and excitement of the resurrection of Jesus last week! What is next at Berea?

Live Prepared…help from the book of James

As so many of us face difficult times where can we turn to for guidance, encouragement and for hope? How can God’s word prepare us for such dramatic challenges that seem to come at us from out of nowhere? How do we handle these trials?

This week we will begin to look at these questions and more through the eyes of one of the most influential leaders in the early Church. A man who did not believe in Jesus at all...until one day. Please join us in the book of James beginning this Sunday, April 19th at 10:00 on our website https://bccbrazil.org

Everyone is invited to join us! God’s Word could not be more timely or useful then at this moment in history.

We also want to let you know that on our website we have some great lessons for our kids! Easy to access, easy to teach and fun for the family.

We can’t wait to see you online this Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
