73 positive COVID-19 cases reported by ISDH

The Indiana State Department of Health shows Clay County’s positive COVID-19 cases rose again as of Monday, July 10. It’s a trend reflected in the data for District 7 in the Wabash Valley, including:

• VIGO - 301 Positive Cases among the 8,274 tested, with nine deaths.

• GREENE - 207 Positive Cases among the 2,593 tested, with 33 deaths (one new).

• PUTNAM - 194 Positive Cases among the 3,097 tested, with eight deaths.

• CLAY - 73 Positive Cases among the 1,988 tested, with five deaths.

• SULLIVAN - 65 Positive Cases among the 1,827 tested, with one death.

• OWEN - 56 Positive Cases among the 1,969 tested, with one death.

• PARKE - 32 Positive Cases among the 1,018 tested, with no deaths reported.

• VERMILLION - 20 Positive Cases among the 969 tested, with no deaths reported.

District 7 shows a positive COVID-19 test rate at 4.4 percent, with the total of residents tested at 21,740 (286 new test results) and confirmation of a total 948 cases, with 14 new cases reported since Friday.

The ISDH reports overall 57,206 positive cases among the 6.7 million Indiana residents, with 635,660 residents tested, and 2,632 deaths reported. The state’s data suggests that the increasing number of Indiana residents tested has lowered the overall percentage of Indiana residents to nine percent. Indiana residents whose physician listed their death with COVID-19 as a contributing cause remains stable at 193: Deaths diagnosed by medical staff based on X-rays, scans, and other clinical symptoms with the absence of a COVID-19 test.

On Monday, the ISDH reported patients hospitalized with COVID-19 took a small drop to 805.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US), there are 3,761,362 cases reported in the United States (63,201 new cases reported), with 140,157 deaths (498 new deaths).

Should children wear face coverings?

Parents, with back-to-school on their minds, are asking for information regarding face coverings and their children.

CDC recommends that everyone 2-years and older wear a cloth face covering that covers their nose and mouth in public settings when around people who are not living in your household, mainly were other social distancing measures are challenging to maintain.

Cloth face coverings should NOT be put on babies or children younger than two because of the danger of suffocation.

Children younger than 2-years of age are listed as an exception, as well as anyone who has trouble breathing or is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the face covering without assistance.

The World Health Organization lists COVID-19 in 216 countries, areas, or territories with confirmed cases reported at 14,348,858 and confirmed deaths at 603,691 as of July 20, 2020.
