TOP STORY OF THE DAY, brought to you free by WICU: Water line break repaired, no boil order necessary
Freezing temperatures caused a break in an eight-inch city water line on Tuesday, but it was repaired without the need for a boil order.
Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham was with the city water department crew at the water line break near the 300 block of north Hoosier Street during the repair process that took six-seven hours. The rupture, which was repaired shortly after midnight, only affected the city water customers in that area.
"It was like three degrees out there last night, and when you go down into that hole to make repairs, you get soaked," said the mayor in praise of the crew working in the extreme temperatures. "They were able to keep the pressure on in the line while the repairs were made, which meant we didn't need a boil order."
The recent winter storm has kept many city employees busy, and Wyndham appreciates their dedication.
"The streets are in pretty good shape right now," said Wyndham. "Today, they are beginning to clear some alleys that are used a lot in the city."
The bitter weather in the Wabash Valley is not over, according to Indianapolis's National Weather Service.
Snow flurries are expected Wednesday afternoon into the evening, with temperatures in the mid-teens and wind chills potentially at -10 degrees overnight. Snow showers could continue Thursday, with temperatures expected to increase to the mid-20s.
The forecast expects minor snowfall over the next couple of days, but motorists are urged to continue to be safe while traveling.
