Law enforcement officials haver confirmed the male suspect involved in a lethal shooting is in custody after the Indiana State Police SWAT team detained him.

Teddy L. Gibson, Jr., 44, Indianapolis, was taken into custody Saturday evening and booked into the Clay County Justice Center around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Gibson is preliminarily charged with Attempted Arson(F4), Murder(F1), and Obstruction of Justice(F6). Gibson remains incarcerated without bond awaiting formal court proceedings.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department began investigating the incident shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday when an unidentified frantic female caller notified 911 Clay County Dispatch of an unwanted visitor with a gun at 5923 North County Road 850 North, Poland.

Due to the ongoing investigation, specific details are limited.

However, officials confirmed Gibson acted suspiciously at the home and while visiting Ronald B. Williams, 35, at a pole barn on the property.

The female attempted to contact Williams, but when she could not locate him, she fled the home on a UTV and called 911 when she saw Gibson with a gun. (Officials would later learn that her decision to flee the home would ultimately save her life.)

Investigators later discovered Williams, who had been shot several times, in the pole barn. Although deputies attempted life-saving measures, Williams succumbed to his injuries.

The residence was secured, and members of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation. Indiana State Police was requested to assist, and the SWAT Team took Gibson into custody without incident at an Indianapolis residence.

Assisting the Clay County Sheriff’s Department was Indiana Conservation Officer, ISP, Clay County Prosecutor’s Office, Clay County Coroner’s Office, Center Point Fire Department, Poland Fire Department and STAR Ambulance.

The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office will file formal charges this week.
