SECTIONAL SWEEP: Clay City, Northview pick up softball crowns

Northview and Clay City played entirely different kinds of sectional high school sectional championship softball games on Wednesday night.

The Knights rode the strong pitching arm of senior Lauren Sackett to win the Edgewood Sectional title 4-0 over the host team. Sackett only gave up two hits and struck out 16 Mustangs in leading Northview to its second straight softball sectional crown.

Ellie Carter had a home run for the Knights, who will play a regional game on Tuesday night in Indianapolis against an undetermined opponent.

North Central battled Clay City tooth and nail, with the Thunderbirds hanging tough until the top of the seventh -- when Clay City's Northern Kentucky-bound senior Charly Koehler ripped a two-run single to break open a close game and finalize a 6-2 victory.

Clay City will host a regional game at 7 p.m. Tuesday against an undetermined team from Indianapolis.
