Prior to Monday’s boys basketball game against visiting Eminence, Clay City’s Saydee Hauer and Blake Patterson were presented with the West Central Indiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes Character Counts award.

Hauer and Patterson are both multi-sport athletes for the Eels and have spent the winter playing for Clay City’s girls and boys basketball teams.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an organization that has allowed athletes at every level to use their respective platform of sports to reach their teammates, coaches and opponents with the word and power of Jesus Christ.

The organization’s vision is to ‘see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.’ Their mission is to ‘lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.’

To qualify for the Character Counts award, student-athletes had to fulfill the values of the FCA, which are described as ‘demonstrating steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through integrity, serving, teamwork and excellence.’

Hauer and Patterson met the criteria for the award and were presented with a plaque at midcourt for the entire Eel Dome crowd to shower them with applause for their work at church and in the community.
