The County Commission announced several county detours for the summer, at its monthly meeting in early May and explained the Summer Dust Control Program.

The county has offered the dust control program for years as a cost share, to help people to suppress dust in front of their homes, on gravel roads, said Commission President Marty Heffner.

Homeowners have several different options, for the 50/50 cost share program.

For a 300 foot pass in front of the home, using either road oil or calcium, the homeowner share is $187.50, for 350 feet is $218.75 and for 400 feet is $250. To reserve a spot, call the county garage at 448-9040, talk to Justin or Candi and tell them you want dust suppression.

The work will start by June 3. For more than 400 feet, the homeowner will need to pick up 100 percent of the cost.

Next the commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 2022-8, to authorize execution of INDOT agreements.

This allows the president alone to sign agreements, instead of all three commissioners.

Next, the commissioners got into the current list of unapproved roadway detours and approved them all, unanimously.

“It’s that season in Indiana, I’m not talking about summer, it’s construction season,” Heffner said.

A small structure replacement on Highway 157, about four to five miles south of Clay City on the way to Coal City, will lead to closures for at least a few days.

Next, 6.5 miles south of Clay City on State Road 59, repairs are planned on a bridge known as Mirrors Lake, at 1400 S County Road 200 W. Commissioner Paul Sinders said there isn’t a good Clay County road to use there as an unofficial detour, but they have no choice.

There are also future plans to repair the bridge at Bowling Green, because the approach is sinking in, Heffner said.

A small structure replacement is set to start July 5, on State Road 42, just west of 59, at Prairie City. It will be at County Road 25W down to 300N and then over to 200E, on Harmony Road, and back up to 42.
