Planting Day on June 10

Monday, May 30, 2022

Clay County SWCD has planted 10 native flowering trees and three native shade trees at Craig Park, through a $500 grant provided by West Central Indiana Quail Forever.

In conjunction with this, we will be planting a 100 sqare foot pollinator patch on June 10, starting at 1 p.m.

Plus we will hand out packets of pollinator seeds.

Public is welcome to come visit, and pick up information on Indiana natives and invasives. This funding is provided by a 319 grant through Ouabache Land Conservancy.

All pollinators planted will be Indiana natives.

Our local Invasives leader Amber Slaughterbeck will be out that day removing invasives along the lake through SICIM (state of Indiana cooperative invasives management).

The SWCD will have information available for invasives and native plantings, and a table set up for kids to plant their own pollinator.

The 4H Junior Leaders will be there to assist with any activities as well as our local Urban soil health group PHISH (People Helping Improve Soil Health).

This group offers assistance to local homeowners with any problems with erosion or garden issues, in backyards under five acres.

PHISH offers one free soil sample test to any local landowner in the counties of Clay, Greene, Morgan, Putnam, Sullivan and Vigo.

The Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District can be reached at 812-446-8986, Ext 3.
