BPD busy working on crimes against children
A Brazil man faces allegations of level 1 felony Child Abuse.
Dustin Spangenburg, 45, was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon on a warrant issued from Clay Circuit Court earlier the same day.
The investigation began on September 19, when a local elementary school notified Brazil Police Department that an 11-year-old student told a staff member about a possible sexual situation involving Spangenburg.
The child told school officials and social workers explicit details of incidents dating back six years while living in another state. The most recent incident occurred Sunday, September 18, while the mother was at work.
Officials confirm the unidentified victim was taken to Suzie’s Place for an interview as part of the investigation.
A case file was completed and turned over to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office, which acted quickly to secure an arrest warrant.
During an initial hearing in Clay Circuit Court Friday, Spangenburg was advised of the charges, potential penalties, and his rights if convicted. Spangenburg was issued a no-contact order for the victim, appointed a public defender, and had a bond set at $50,000 with no 10% acceptable. He remains incarcerated at the Clay County Justice Center, awaiting formal court proceedings.
NOTE: All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
