Small Business Spotlight: Rooted Beauty
Rooted Beauty, a new hair salon on South Franklin Street, is a childhood dream come true.
Skylar Lunsford has dreamed of owning her business since she was a child.
“I have dreamed of owning my own business since I was a child. It’s been a dream of mine ever since I can remember! ,” said Lunsford, a 2017 Northview graduate. “I love all the paperwork, setting the decorations to create the environment, the social media aspect of the business. I knew I didn’t want to work for anybody else. I had always wanted to be a business owner when I was a kid.”
Lunsford, who has almost five years of experience, said she wants a comfortable atmosphere where clients come in and feel “they are at home, all comfy, and could take their shoes off.”
Lunsford is excited to create an opportunity for the stylists working for her, helping to change how people feel about their hairstylists. Her goal is to create a one-stop shop for everything beautiful on Brazil’s main street.
“Brazil is really up and coming, and I think in 10 years, this will be the place to be,” said Lunsford, who recently joined the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. “I am so excited about meeting local business people and networking with people.”
Lunsford said the one piece of advice she would share with other people looking to start a business is the same advice her father gave her.
“Start saving now because you never know what will happen,” she said. “I was 18 at the time and didn’t listen. I really wish I had.”
Lunsford is excited about the future, but she is so grateful to the community, especially Shane Litz at Terre Haute Savings Bank, for his help and to her husband and father for their support and advice along the way.
Rooted Beauty is a small-town salon located at 116 South Franklin St, Brazil. They are accepting new clients.
