TOP STORY OF THE DAY - K9 Units at work: You can run, but you can’t hide

Two Poland individuals learned that teamwork is a key part of law enforcement.

Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen confirmed that the Owen County Sheriff’s Department notified the Clay County Sheriff’s Department that they needed assistance in tracking a runaway suspect early Sunday morning.

According to a CCSD press release, it all began with a hit-and-run accident in Owen County. Officials tracked the suspect to a residence, but when they attempted to talk to him, he fled into the residence. During the investigation, officers determined the male had numerous outstanding warrants from multiple counties, including Clay, Putnam, and Owen counties.

When called out by officers, the male barricaded himself inside, refusing to come out.

Officers decided at the scene to use a K9 unit. Clay County K9 Handler and K9 Officer Jak entered, discovering two males hiding in the attic.

Steven Samora, 38, Victoria, TX

The men were taken into custody without injury or further incident and transported to the Clay County Justice Center, where they were preliminarily charged with the following:

Level 6 Felony Possession of Methamphetamine

A Misdemeanor Possession of Paraphernalia

B Misdeamnor Marijuana Cultivation.

Ramirez was charged with multiple outstanding warrants, and further charges are pending in Owen County from the original incident that led law enforcement to the Clay County home.

Star Ambulance also responded to the scene.
