PPG, located at 1825 E National Ave, Brazil, hosted its second annual safety training day on Friday, June 23rd. To comply with the Environmental Health & Safety regulations, the plant shut down its daily productions and broke employees into small groups to train in 14 areas, including active shooter, fire safety, and ergonomics.

Ron Wiland, PPG operations manager, said supervisors encouraged the employees to take the lead in the training modules this year to be more engaged and involved.

Clay County Sheriff’s Department deputies were on site to lead the active shooter training. Brazil City Fire Department was on site to train how to extinguish different types of fires.

Since PPG works with several different types of chemicals, they demonstrated how to use an ABC extinguisher for your typical paper/wood fires, Purple K for chemical and bulk solvent fires, and D for aluminum paste fires.

The company does not expect an employee to extinguish a fire but must offer education if the occasion arises. The most important information is how to get out of the building safely.

It was a full training day, and all employees were treated to lunch by local food vendors, including Deputy Dawgs, BBQ Bills, and Kona Ice.
