TOP STORY OF THE DAY - A successful ham & bean dinner
With the cooler fall temperature over the weekend, it was perfect weather for the Clay County Senior Center's ham and bean dinner.
The ham and bean fundraiser, which also offered chili, was to help raise funds to keep the Senior Center open.
Volunteers helped serve bowls and refills to hungry supporters. The event also offered 50/50 drawings, raffles, a silent auction, live music, and desserts available for purchase.
Bob Decamp, former transportation driver at the center but ever-present volunteer, says the night went well.
"The bean dinner was a real success; we did real well. I passed out over 37 prizes for our raffle," said Decamp.
Decamp explains it's been a few years since the last fundraiser, and the overwhelming support is appreciated.
"It took a while to figure out how things work, and we're going to learn from our mistakes," explained Decamp. "We want to thank all the people who contributed because we had several contributors that donated besides just buying beans."
