SENIOR SPOTLIGHT - NHS EMMA GUERNSEY

Tuesday, January 16, 2024

Northview senior Emma Guernsey is involved in color guard, both with the marching band in the fall and winterguard in the winter. She was a member of the Phantom Regiment in the past summer as well. She is also a part of Big Brother Big Sister, Interact Club, National Honors Society, and History Club. Outside of school, Guernsey works part-time at ACE Hardware in Brazil and enjoys reading in her free time.

Emma also loves hiking and being on the water, especially kayaking.

“I love... honestly doing anything outside.”

Guernsey's favorite high school memories consist of being in the student section at football games and hanging out with her friends in the fall.

In the future, Emma plans to attend Indiana University and major in sports marketing.

“I really wanted to do something in sports, and I thought I would be good on the marketing side.”

Guernsey explains that her goal is to eventually work for INDYCAR or Formula One.

“My family and I are big fans and always watch and go to races. It's been a part of my life since I was little.”

If given the opportunity to work for INDYCAR or Formula One, Emma would like to either work for a specific driver/team or work with different tracks to improve fan experiences and attract more people to races.

Guernsey cites her color guard career as one of her proudest accomplishments. She was a part of the Phantom Regiment the summer before her senior year, and they got seventh at DCI finals.

“I made so many new friends and got to perform with a professional colorguard all over the country, practicing all day for 86 days and performing for giant crowds. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and big challenge, but very rewarding.”

Emma explains that through the Phantom Regiment, she learned how to take care of herself on her own and what hard work really is. Her favorite part of the experience was meeting new people and waking up in a new state every morning.

“It has always been a dream to be in a guard like Phantom.”

Guernsey states that her role models are her parents.

“They are both very successful in their work life and ther lives outside of their jobs. They are both very hardworking and goal-oriented.”

At some point in her life, Emma would love to travel around Europe as well as visit all the national parks in the United States.
