Girls hoops sectional unveiled

Sunday, January 21, 2024

On Sunday evening, girls high school basketball teams around the state, including Clay City and Northview who will square off in the cross county showdown on Tuesday in Brazil, huddled around their televisions and mobile devices to take in the IHSAA sectional draw.

For both the Eels and the Knights, playing on Friday night (Feb. 1) in the sectional semifinal looks to be quite possible once again.

Clay City drew the bye in the Class A Bloomfield Sectional and will take on the winner of the opening round matchup between White River Valley and North Central. The Lady Eels were 0-2 against the Wolverines and Thunderbirds, falling by respective scores of 42-33 to White River Valley on Nov. 27 and 65-39 to North Central on Dec. 11.

Northview will take on South Vermillion in the opening round of the Class 3A Owen Valley Sectional on Jan. 31. The Knights defeated the Wildcats by a score of 64-17 on Dec. 5. Should Northview get past South Vermillion again, it will take on the winner of Indian Creek and Brown County in the semifinal round. Northview defeated Brown County by a score of 61-49 on Nov. 17. The Lady Knights were scheduled to battle it out with Class 3A No. 5 Indian Creek on the road last Friday but that came was postponed to Monday due to snow, ice and freezing temperatures.
