SENIOR SPOTLIGHT - NHS EVAN STUREGON

Thursday, February 8, 2024

Evan Sturgeon is a senior at Northview High School. He is involved in Building Trades. In this program, students gain practical knowledge about the different aspects of home-building.

Sturgeon explains that he took this course to gain useful skills and knowledge for the future.

“I figured it would be a great opportunity for me just as a whole. There is always going to be a demand for it in the future, so I figured might as well go do it.”

Evan is also a Boy Scout. He has been involved in Boys Scouts since first grade and is now an adult leader.

“Before, I was more hands-on as a youth, since it’s a youth-led program... [The adult leaders are] here more as a guidance.”

Sturgeon states that his proudest achievement has been becoming an Eagle Scout.

“Very few people get that, and I am very proud.”

Evan explains that he had to complete a project that helps the community to become an Eagle Scout. His project was a sign for the Posey Volunteer Fire Department.

“They had been wanting this for a while now... I gave them an idea on what it would cost, and what it would look like if I were to do it, and the board approved it and provided funding for the brand new sign and everything along with it.”

In the future, Sturgeon is thinking about going into the Air Force’s RED HORSE squadrons, the United States Air Force’s heavy-construction units.

“It will use my skills I am learning now... I can still use those skills even out of the military through contracting or employment from another business. It’s always going to be there.”

When it comes to his bucket list, Evan explains that he has always had a goal to build his own house.

“That has always been an end-goal type of deal - build yourself a house that you can say that you are proud of.”
