Steven Rader passed away unexpectedly on 3/5/24 while snowbirding in Florida with his loving wife, Tammy.

Steven was born to Frank and Patsy (Michael) Rader in Brazil, IN on March 22, 1963. He was a 1982 graduate of Van Buren High School.

Steven was a Chief Inspector for Paxon Energy & Infrastructure / CenterPoint Energy. He had also previously worked for IDOC at Putnamville Correctional Facility & Plainfield Correctional Facility, as well as Great Dane Trailers. He and Tammy regularly attended church at the Family Worship Center in Brazil, and he was formerly a founding member of the Christian Fellowship Campers.

Steven married Tammy (Kunkel) Rader in 2013, and together they lived a very happy life full of love and adventures.

Steven was the rock and patriarch of the family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He could fix anything and was always happy to help. From home repairs, RV service, building things, etc., he enjoyed helping everyone. He did not know a stranger. Steven enjoyed spending time tinkering in his barn and on the family farm. He could often be seen in the seat of a tractor or giving the grandchildren rides in the side-by-side in the fields. He enjoyed camping and going on motorcycle rides with friends.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Patsy Rader; his grandparents, Elmer and Mabel (Sterrett) Michael, and Ora and Ruth (Modesitt) Rader; and grandbaby Yocom.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy; children Jade (Kevin) Lishka, Matthew (Orlando) Rader, Kalissa (James) Yocom, their mother Kristi Alvarado, and his bonus daughter Hannah Whittington; grandchildren Sophia and Brycen Lishka, Leo and Eli Yocom; siblings Rebecca Rader and Michael Rader; siblings-in-law: Marsha (Kenneth) Helms; Randy (Peggy) Kunkel; Richard (Joyce) Kunkel as well as several extended family members to include aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and several close friends who were like family to him.

Steven was a friend to many and was a great man. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 from 11am to 2pm, and the service will begin at 2:00pm at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave Brazil, Indiana 47834. Graveside service will immediately follow at Calcutta Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Family Worship Center’s building fund in Steven’s memory (8157 N. County Road 425 W. Brazil IN 47834). This project was very near to his heart.
