Thursday, March 14, 2024

Brenda L. Slack, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born in Brazil, Indiana on May 29, 1950 to the late Carl Rhodes and Joan (Short) Rhodes-Sherrill. Brenda graduated from Brazil High School. She spent many years working for Columbia Records, she was the co-owner of Diverse Enterprise, part owner of Lawson-Slack Funeral Homes Inc. and worked for Ikon in association with ISU and St. Mary of the Woods before retiring.

Brenda touched many hearts, was willing to help anyone, and enjoyed her community. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dusty and Dewane Rhodes, sisters, Shirley and Jackie Rhodes; and her long time best friend, Nancy Cole.

Survivors include her son, Stephen R. Slack, Jr.; daughter, Stacey M. Slack; grandchildren, Spencer and his wife Katie Slack, Henry Slack, Andrew Brock, and Alexia Ray; great-grandchildren, Sophia Slack, Hudson and Houston Mcmains; siblings, Susie Buck, Betty Cheek, Beverly Lawson, Charlotte Schneider and Peggy Brush; brother-in-law, Mike McKinney; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Brenda wished to be cremated with no services. She felt very happy and complete with the life she led. She would not want us to mourn her passing but to remember her kindness and smile until we see her again. Moore Funeral Home in Brazil was entrusted with her cremation arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Society in her honor. Online condolences may be expressed at www.moorefuneralhomes.com.
