Forest Park Meet Up: 4-6:45 p.m.

Brazil Cruise-In: 7 p.m. 9 p.m.

“ALL street-legal automobiles and trucks are welcome. As always, Keep it safe, and remember the kids are watching and near the road. The police will be out like last time as well.”

It’s time to pull up a lawn chair on Brazil sidewalks and watch classic and new cars cruise along US 40 in Brazil.

After finding a date that doesn’t conflict with other local events, the 2024 Brazil Cruise-In will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 7 p.m. along US 40.

The Forest Park Meet Up starts at 4 p.m. and is a great place to take photos and talk with drivers before the event begins.

The Cruise In began during Covid19 as a fun way to interact while watching old and new cars “bop” along US 40. It is also a time for many out-of-towners to roam around the city and enjoy sights and sounds.

Brazil resident, Eric Jensen’s simple idea of getting some friends together for a nostalgic cruise in town, took on a life of its own and has become a family-friendly grassroots event and a nostalgic favorite for many residents since 2020.

Some people say, “It’s the largest car show in the Wabash Valley, featuring the vintage to the newest of vehicles, and it is not only cars. Motorcycles, side-by-sides, trucks, and new vehicles with booming sound systems and lights all gather in one place.”

Jensen admits the event keeps evolving. He only posts the date on Facebook, and people show up to the free event.

The majority of people are just there to enjoy the event, whether they’re driving a car or being observers. However, a few eager drivers are interested in putting on a show, which has led to noise complaints from loud burnouts and speeding.

“I do ask that people be considerate of the locals and lower the noise level at 10 p.m. No reason to upset people that are not into Cruising Brazil,”said Jensen about the event which typically winds down around 9;30. “Safety is the primary concern and we ask parents that have kids watching to watch them close.”

The Brazil Police Department showed up in force, enjoying the event with the crowd but ensuring drivers do their part to protect themselves, their families, and the community.

“We have to drive with some due diligence and safety for the rest of the community,” said Police Chief Clint McQueen previously. “We do that for our community and visitors; We will work well together.”

When officers showed up with police cruisers parked in turn lanes, they got out of their vehicles to wave at the crowd and stand by the cars. They were greeted with loud applause last year.
