SENIOR SPOTLIGHT - CCHS CLAYTON RECTOR

Friday, May 3, 2024

Clayton Rector is a senior at Clay City High School. He is involved in student council and Cob and Cog. Clayton is also a member of the track and cross country teams. In track, he runs the 1600, 800, and 3200 meter races as well as the 4x800 meter relay and occasionally the 4x400 meter relay.

Outside of school, Rector is an administrative board member at Bowling Green Community Church.

Clayton is a member of the 181st Intelligence Wing, Indiana Air National Guard as well, having joined in September 2023.

“Because I am still in high school, I haven’t been to basic training yet... Right now I go once a month to drills and learn about how to be a good airman.”

After high school, Rector will go to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, to attend Air Force Basic Military Training. He will have several months of technical training on top of the seven-and-a-half weeks at BMT.

“When I come back home [from training], I will start college while working for the [181st Intelligence Wing]. I plan to get an aerospace engineering degree. After that, I hope to commission as an officer.”

Clayton describes his motivations for joining the Indiana Air National Guard.

“The thing that influenced me most is probably my family. I came from three generations of airmen; I am the fourth. I wanted a job that would allow me to help and serve my community, and the National Guard fit perfectly.”

Rector’s favorite part of high school has been the social side of sports.

“My favorite time in high school has to be when on every Friday before a cross country meet, we have team bonding at someone’s house and eat and hang out together.”

At some point in his life, Clayton would love to visit Europe.

“I would love to visit all of the historical sites in Europe. I’ve always been fascinated with military history, and I would like to see the places I’ve read about for years... I hope with the military I will have plenty of opportunities.”
