Why not just use Google Maps?

To the Editor:

I saw a recent report in the paper of the Clay County Commissioners meeting.

Now let me get this straight: Our commissioners have approved a contract with a company to make two flights over the county at a cost of more than$136,000, and these pictures will be used in the assessment of the property in the county?

I am just guessing here, but I bet someone in the assessors office has to look at these pictures and then compare them to the property listing to see if there has been any additions to the property.

Now I am really going out on a limb here, but I have heard of a free program on the Internet called Google Maps that provides excellent aerial views of property from above.

If the commissioners or the assessor would like help locating the program, they can find it at www.google/maps, and save our taxpayers all of that money.

It is all taxpayers money no matter where it comes from because we all pay taxes.
