Officials: More will be charged in case

Although Kevin L. Hampton was convicted of killing Tanette Dickison and Cassie Harris in November 2004 recently, officials involved in the two murder cases say legal proceedings are not over. "There are issues remaining about other individuals involved in these matters," Clay County Prosecutor Lee Reberger said, adding that he would be unable to comment about pending cases against other individuals after Hampton's conviction Monday. "The State of Indiana intends to pursue these matters fully."...

Man arrested for growing operation

The man authorities were looking for in connection with a small marijuana growing operation discovered near Carbon Thursday was arrested late Friday evening. Dale Edward Calvert Jr., 37, Carbon, was booked into the Clay County Justice Center for warrant charges of possession of marijuana/hashish and possession of paraphernalia shortly after 9 p.m. on a $5,000 no cash bond...

NASA honors former resident

Ken Williams has been quite busy recently. And through his efforts, he was recently recognized by NASA. Williams, a former Brazil resident, was awarded a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal earlier this month. The 1974 Brazil High School graduate said the award came with a citation, which read, "For your engineering excellence as the Stardust Navigation Team Chief in detailed planning, review and operations of the successful sample return phase of the mission."...

According to a comprehensive study recently released, a dangerous, drug-resistant staph germ may be infecting as many as 5 percent of hospital and nursing home patients The study, conducted by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, showed that at least 30,000 U.S. hospital patients may have the superbug at any given time, about 10 times the rate that some health officials had previously estimated...
