It seems like yesterday ...
It seems like yesterday ...
It seems like yesterday ...
It seems like only yesterday, July 25, 2002, Brazil Buzz was given space on the pages of The Brazil Times by Frank Phillips.
Eighteen years later and a few miles away from my hometown where it all began Brazil Buzz and I are alive and well.
Thanks to the Brazil Times and you my readers for your kindness and encouragement and over-looking the flaws in my work.
Thank you for laughing when I tickle your funny bone and we journey back down memory lane to the good old days. I talk about classmates, schoolmates, old friends and neighbors, my family and yours and a myriad of other subjects, never an unkind word.
Letters, notes and phone calls are always nice. You bridge the miles between here and home.
Paul and I look through old, though youthful eyes. We embrace each new day and enjoy every minute possible. Doomsday humdrum goes unsaid. We see the beauty of God’s gifts to mankind and delight at their existence. We handle simple pleasures with care.
No matter what befalls us, we pick ourselves up and shelter the brunt of our burdens from others with a smile.
My sailor and I ran out of things to argue about a long time ago. I do keep telling him he is no longer on the ship and this is his duty station. Still, there is no trip to Dr. Phil’s show anytime soon.
He offered to proof my column since he likes to read Brazil Buzz first. I fired him because NCSI (his show) kept his attention. He held the rough copy I pulled from the printer and never once did he see the funny stuff I planted for his eyes only. I ask my better half if he found errors and he spouted, “The article is perfect honey!” The proof reader offered to critique more and I crossed my eyes, turned my head to hide my silly grin.
I realize more each passing day how good it is to have Paul in my life sixty-three years to date. Once I met a stranger and we eloped…
We believe the union was meant to be and thank God for watching over us.
The following poem I penned in 2000 a year of many moods for us.
Our God
God takes no vacation.
He never stops to rest
He is forever watching
over us
He does his very best.
When we are lonely,
sick and in despair
Always and forever, He is always there.
For he is our guiding light,
our savior and our king
He is the one that understands
each and everything.
When we have our darkest hours
and bow our heads to pray
God looks down from heaven
and takes the gloom away.
He can make us happy,
Fill our hearts with glee.
Yes, my friend God is there
Watching over you and me.
