Jail accepted by county (01/31/06)
- The public is invited to the dedication and an open house at the new jail at 1 p.m., Feb. 19. For Sheriff Mike Heaton and the staff at the Clay County Jail, the time has finally come. Granted, Heaton won't complete the move into the facility and the accompanying training until mid- to late-March. Some minor glitches still need to be resolved, and a few items on the architect's "punch list" remain unpunched...

Teachers seeking new job actions (01/31/06)
Button, button, who's got the button? Apparently not the members of the Clay County Classroom Teachers' Association. Last week they were requested by the Clay Community School Corporation and the Clay Community School Board of Trustees to not wear the "Working Without a Contract" buttons during the school day. Reports from parents and students to school board members of teachers wearing the buttons and discussing contract negotiations with students during classtime led to the action...

Northview freshman use strong second half to overcome T-Birds (01/31/06)

Northview's freshman boys basketball team overcame a sluggish first-half performance to beat North Central 52-36 Monday. Northview mitigated a miserable first half with a 23-point third quarter and a solid performance at the line, earning the non-conference victory to improve their record to 10-5 on the season. ...

Nadine DeCamp, 81, Brazil, died Sunday evening at her residence. Her son found her Monday morning when she did not respond to attempts to call her. For 20 years she had been a sales clerk at the former Oehler Department Store and later worked at Pell's Bargain Mart until her retirement...

Robert Eugene Townsend, 73, of Brazil, died at Regional Hospital ICU in Terre Haute. Survivors include Mary Lowry, Charles, Tom and Bill Townsend. There will be no visitation or funeral services. His body was donated to the Anatomical Education Program at I.U. School of Medicine...
